A loose adaption of Franz Kafka "A Little Woman" Derek saves a lizard in the Paraguayan rainforest, only for it to transform into a young girl, Paloma. Derek brings her home to Chicago and raises her despite her clear hatred towards the man. Their uncomfortable relationship takes an unexpected turn when Derek reveals an ancient prophecy that she must bear his children.
