Carpenter Square Theatre is holding auditions for KING JAMES, directed by Lilli Bassett.

AUDITION DETAILS:

Location: Carpenter Square Theatre, 1009 W. Reno, Oklahoma City, OK
Parking: Free street parking. Do not use The Horn Trader parking lot. May park on ramps in front of garage doors on Reno.

CAST OVERVIEW:
Seeking 2 men (one Black, one White) to portray characters at ages 21, 27, 31, and 33.

ROLE 1 - SHAWN: A preppie young Black man, product of St. Ignatius Catholic High School. At the top of the play, he has just sold a short story and has money to spend on Cavalier tickets. He's a big NBA fan who has never attended a Cavaliers game in person.

ROLE 2 - MATT: A sloppy white dude working as an inexperienced bartender at a wine bar in east Cleveland. Still depends on his parents for money and laundry. Currently in debt, but his dad has handed him Cavalier season tickets to sell. He's been a big Cavaliers fan since age six.

SYNOPSIS:
"King" LeBron James' years playing in Cleveland bring promise, prosperity, and renewal to the city, while his twelve-year reign unites Shawn and Matt in an unlikely friendship founded on basketball. When Matt's business venture turns sour, he must sell his most prized possession—his Cavs season tickets. The buyer is Shawn, who just sold his first short story and will finally watch his team in person for the first time. Thrown together by chance, the next 12 years prove as defining, dramatic, and sometimes heartbreaking for Matt and Shawn as they do for the Cavs and LeBron James. This clever comedy is an intimate exploration of the place that sports occupy in our lives and relationships.

10 performances over 3 weekends: September 11-12, 17-20, and 24-27
Brush-up rehearsal and archive photos: September 16
First tech: Sunday, September 6 (afternoon/early evening)

REHEARSALS:
Most rehearsals scheduled Monday-Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday or Sunday rehearsals only if needed to accommodate week-night conflicts. Rehearsals start almost immediately after auditions.
