Egan Escape Productions is seeking energetic, dependable, and creative performers to join our immersive horror entertainment team. As a Horror Escape Room Actor/Scare Actor, you will become an integral part of our interactive escape experiences by portraying terrifying, suspenseful, and story-driven characters that fully immerse guests in the world of our attractions.

This position is much more than simply "jumping out and scaring people." Our actors help tell the story, guide the experience through character interaction, adapt to each group's reactions, and create unforgettable moments while maintaining the highest standards of guest safety and professionalism.

Every performance is unique, requiring quick thinking, improvisation, physical stamina, and a commitment to staying in character from beginning to end. Actors work closely with game masters, technicians, and management to deliver an exceptional guest experience during every show.

This is a paid, part-time position with evening, weekend, holiday, and seasonal availability required.

Essential ResponsibilitiesCharacter Performance

Portray assigned horror characters with consistency, intensity, and professionalism.
Remain in character throughout the entire guest experience, including before, during, and after each game when appropriate.
Deliver scripted dialogue while confidently improvising based on guest interactions.
Create suspense through movement, timing, vocal performance, and physical acting.
Develop unique character personalities while remaining consistent with attraction storylines.

Guest Interaction

Interact with guests in ways that enhance immersion without breaking character.
Read guest reactions and adjust performance intensity appropriately.
Create memorable experiences for guests while maintaining a safe environment.
Provide realistic fear-based entertainment without using offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate behavior.
Maintain professionalism even when guests are frightened, emotional, or disruptive.

Immersive Storytelling

Help advance the storyline of each escape room through believable performances.
Deliver clues or scripted information naturally when required.
Work alongside Game Masters to ensure the story flows smoothly.
Support the atmosphere through consistent acting, body language, and environmental awareness.

Safety Responsibilities

Prioritize guest safety at all times.
Never intentionally make physical contact with guests unless specifically directed by management for approved interactions.
Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged props, malfunctioning effects, or emergency situations.
Follow all emergency evacuation and safety procedures.
Maintain awareness of cameras, exits, emergency lighting, and guest behavior.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with fellow actors, game masters, technicians, and supervisors.
Attend rehearsals, training sessions, meetings, and performance evaluations.
Assist with scene resets between games.
Help maintain costumes, props, and performance spaces.
Communicate effectively regarding operational issues during shifts.

Costume & Makeup

Wear assigned costumes correctly and maintain a professional appearance.
Properly clean and store costumes after each shift.
Report damaged costumes, props, or equipment.

Physical Performance

This role requires performers to:

Stand for extended periods.
Walk, crouch, crawl, kneel, and climb stairs.
Perform sudden movements safely.
Work in low-light environments.
Work around theatrical fog, loud sound effects, flashing lights, and special effects.
Perform multiple games throughout a shift while maintaining high energy.

Required Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old.
Reliable transportation and punctual attendance.
Comfortable working nights, weekends, holidays, and during Halloween season.
Ability to memorize scripts and character backgrounds.
Strong improvisation skills.
Comfortable wearing masks & costumes.
Comfortable working in dark, confined, or themed environments.
Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Professional attitude and positive work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

Acting or theatre experience.
Haunted house or horror attraction experience.
Escape room experience.
Improv or character performance background.
Dance, movement, or stunt experience.
Voice acting experience.
Customer service experience.

Physical Requirements

Lift up to 30 pounds.
Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, and reaching.
Ability to work 4–8+ hour shifts.
Ability to perform in warm costumes.
Ability to speak clearly while wearing masks or prosthetics.
Strong stamina and endurance.

Work Environment

Actors work in immersive themed environments that may include:

Darkness and low lighting
Fog machines
Loud music and sound effects
Flashing or strobe lighting
Confined spaces
Uneven flooring
Indoor and occasional outdoor performance areas
Halloween props and special effects
