Synopsis: Jane, an art curator, wants to “change the face of [the] museum to truly reflect America.” She excludes her artist friend, Gus, a white gay man, arguing that “white dudes” have had their turn. Outraged and desperate to have his work included, Gus hires Vanessa, a Black actress, to perform as Balkonaé Townsend, a brash and political artist who will fit the museum’s desire for “new voices.” Everything is great, until Balkonaé takes over and Gus must deal with the mess he’s made. Auditions will be January 10, 10:30-12:00 or12:30-2:00. She and Gus are friends, but she is determined to make her own statement. [Please note: There is, as the playwright says, “a lovely little make out moment” between Gus and Tanner.]
