Audience Producer, Chron

Role Overview
-------------

**Chron** is seeking an innovative and collaborative **Audience Producer** with strong editorial judgment who can help our daily and long-form journalism reach more people and grow our audience. The ideal candidate will also find and edit compelling videos with strong audience potential and write the occasional quick-turn trending story.

This person will monitor real-time tools like Marfeel to understand which articles are getting read and shared and on which platform. They’ll use that knowledge to collaborate with their manager, editors and reporters on audience plans and recirculation ideas for our best content.

What You’ll Do

* Execute audience strategy at the direction of the audience manager, monitoring Marfeel and other audience tools to identify stories gaining traction and opportunities to grow reach and engagement.
* Share emerging search and social trends and audience insights with editors and reporters throughout the day.
* Create and edit short-form videos featuring Chron journalism, with a willingness to shoot video in the field if needed.
* Identify compelling Houston or Texas videos with strong audience potential for Chron’s platforms and reach out to the creators for distribution permission or partnership.
* Build graphics and write engaging social posts tailored to individual platforms.
* Prepare and send newsletters, selecting and packaging content for the audience and monitoring performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
* Monitor the AP wire, adding relevant Texas or highly engaging stories to the site and social platforms and writing quick-turn trending content when needed.

What You’ll Bring

**Required Qualifications**

* 1-2 years of relevant experience working in digital publishing or related audience development role.
* Experience shooting and editing video, especially video geared toward social platforms.
* Excellent news judgment.
* Solid writing and communication skills, including knowledge of AP Style.
* Familiarity with content management systems, social media platforms and technical publishing tools.
* Comfortable using audience data and analytics to inform editorial decisions.
* Curiosity and an ability to spot emerging stories, trends and audience opportunities.

**Preferred Qualifications**

* Knowledge of Houston and/or Texas.
