Caption Operator

The Caption Operator will take the final show script and transcribe it to using the captioning software to create the subtitles that allow deaf and hard of hearing patrons to follow the dialogue of what the actors are saying on stage. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares captioning scripts by Transcribing and editing final scripts into the caption software Formatting lines of dialogue and inserting sound cue Rehearsing captioning with Access Services Coordinator or designee Updating scripts to match any script changes made during the run of each show Provides captioning during live performances by Advancing text in time with actors’ speech delivery Trouble shooting technical glitches Setting up and striking equipment prior to and after each performance Ensures a positive patron experience by Meeting patrons prior to the performance to set up the delivery device at their seat Checking-in with patrons during intermission and after the performance Retrieving the delivery device at the end of the performance Advocates for improvements by Documenting patron feedback Documenting technical (e.g. equipment, wifi) issues Embraces the Festival’s commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion by Behaving in a manner that enhances relationships among all company members, particularly those belonging to groups of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability, age and socioeconomic status Interrupting behaviors that hinder our diversity and inclusion efforts Other Duties and Responsibilities: Understudy other caption operators as assigned or needed Attend meetings as scheduled ** To comply with regulations by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the principal duties in job descriptions must be essential to the job.
