Hourly – Model/Actor

Santa Barbara City College Santa Barbara, California

Santa Barbara City College is hiring a Model/Actor for its fine arts program at the Schott Campus in Santa Barbara, CA. This role supports live figure drawing, painting, and sculpture courses by posing as the human subject from which students build their observational and representational art skills. It suits someone comfortable with nude modeling in an academic studio setting who wants consistent, scheduled hours across a weekly class rotation.

About the Role
This position sits within the Lifelong Learning department, which runs studio art courses specifically designed for students ages 55 and older. The Model/Actor works across multiple weekly sessions that currently run Monday through Thursday, supporting classes that span figure drawing, life painting, and sculptural observation. Each session requires sustained, controlled posing that gives students enough time to complete observational studies from a live human figure.

Key Responsibilities

Hold figure drawing poses for extended periods during studio art classes, giving students sufficient time to complete observational studies in two-dimensional and three-dimensional media.
Model without clothing for fine arts courses, maintaining professionalism consistent with academic life drawing studio standards.
Adapt pose duration and positioning based on instructor direction to support specific curriculum objectives across painting, drawing, and sculpture sessions.
Maintain physical stamina and body awareness across multiple weekly sessions, which currently run Monday at 1pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm, Wednesday at 9am to 12pm, and Thursday at 8:30am to 11:30am.
Work within a structured academic production schedule, understanding that class times are subject to change based on semester programming needs.

What You Bring

Prior experience as an art model or figure model in an academic or professional studio environment is preferred.
Comfort and professionalism with nude modeling in a fine arts context, consistent with life drawing and figure study conventions.
Physical ability to hold static poses for extended periods across multiple sessions per week.
Reliability and punctuality across a recurring weekly schedule in an educational setting.

Why This Role
Santa Barbara City College runs an established continuing education program with a consistent enrollment of adult learners, meaning this is steady, recurring work rather than a one-off engagement. Compensation is set at $16.90 to $20.55 hourly. This is a part-time hourly position capped at 19.5 hours per week and 175 days per fiscal year, which runs July 1 through June 30.
