Character description: Elena is a capable but deeply exhausted single mother. She loves her children deeply but is currently unable to meet all their needs. She works and tries to maintain normalcy, but is using alcohol and marijuana to cope with the overwhelming pressure of her life. She is defensive when stressed and feels threatened by the system, fearing her children will be taken away.
