A professor of history at UNO. He specializes in studies of the late 16th and early 17th Centuries. He's tired and overworked, but he loves his job. However, when budget cuts and the looming merger threaten to eliminate his department, he's asked to justify his job with an email to the university. As he carries on, he finds some solace in a letter recovered from the corpse of a long-dead pirate.
