Carter is an American college freshman who is very confident in himself and his cultural identity. He is not well-versed in other cultures, but he is open to learning about them and embracing differences. When the terrorist attacks on September 11th occur, Carter is swept into a state of confusion and distrust - he begins to unfairly grow suspicious of his Muslim roommate Kaveh.
