In the pilot episode of Protected Source, a veteran detective investigates the brutal murder of a young family, uncovering disturbing clues that suggest the work of a calculated killer. At the same time, former cable news journalist Bianca Gerard prepares to launch her new social justice podcast, but moments before going live she is threatened with legal action by an attorney representing her former employer who tries to force her to shut it down. Refusing to be intimidated, Bianca moves forward with her broadcast, unaware that the information she is pursuing may place her in danger. Meanwhile, struggling prosecutor Clarence Mills, whose political campaign is faltering after several courtroom losses, is urged by his campaign manager to secure and win a high-profile murder case to revive his reputation—setting the stage for a dangerous collision between media, politics, and a shocking criminal investigation.
