Rootwatcher

Rootwatcher is a Black- and POC-led independent short film that reimagines hoodoo through the lens of an anime power system. The story follows Kamani, her family, and the centuries worth of ancestry that live within her. Kamani is a reincarnation of High John the Conqueror and was born with yowagan, the ability to navigate both the spiritual and physical realms, making her responsibilities larger than life. When her mother goes missing in a ritual gone wrong, Kamani will stop at nothing to save her. With the help of her sister, she goes on a journey to discover her true purpose, only to find the answers lie within herself.
