Annie is a traditional wife. She's a good Christian woman who wants the best for her family. She supports them by focusing on homemaking, motherhood, and submission to her husband. She was raised with all sisters, and believes there is a right way to be a girl/woman. Her daughter challenges her belief systems, and Annie doesn't know how to handle it other than trying to shut it down. She is nervous that if she doesn't get Barb in check, her husband might lash out. In that case, she would be failing as a wife. All she wants is for Barb to wear a dress, help out in the kitchen, and stop dressing like a boy. Her older son is on the track to being a real man, and she's proud of that.
