Elena’s mother. Gabriella is a first-generation Puerto Rican immigrant to NYC. She worked incredibly hard to become a nurse, and she married a mechanic, so she’s never really understood Elena’s insistence on pursuing a creative career that often seems unstable. She’s a momma bear, but she does hold a lot of “old school” values about a woman’s role in a family. She’s often quite blunt and judgmental, though she cares deeply for her family.
