He's part of a small group in an ambiguous conversation — we can't tell how they know each other or what it's about — when a young officer walks up; his read is a small, unsurprised shift to more watchful, like he's seen this before. We want real years on the face — dignified, not folksy, and not feeble: someone who's lived but is still able-bodied, carrying strength and experience through sheer presence — and who can hold the frame while barely moving.
