10 years old. A younger, even less emotionally developed version of Max. Where present-day Max can at least remove himself from the situation, Young Max has almost no ability to regulate his frustration. A small mistake can feel like the end of the world.
But what Young Max has that present-day Max doesn’t is his grandma, who can disarm him. And it works. Being the impressionable child that he is, an older figure who manages to meet him at his level makes him feel uniquely understood. There’s no relationship like it.
