A nearly 70-year-old woman is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer and realizes her time is running out. Her husband, a celebrated Vietnam War hero, is a tyrant behind closed doors. Their only daughter has become a hikikomori—an extreme social recluse who has shut herself inside her room. Fearing what will happen to her daughter after her death, the mother makes a final decision: to kill her husband.
